How to choose the right lock for your gate

When choosing a lock for your gate you need to think about these choices first to narrow down the type of lock you need:

Do you want a lock with a key or a keyless digital lock
The benefit of digital is you can go out for a run, or your kids can come home from school without needing a key to get into the gate.
The lock is fitted to the frame on the gate the size of this metal gate frame will determine which locks can be installed on the frame.
Can someone reach through bars or slats on a gate to the inside handle or easily reach over the gate to open the inside handle and enter through your gate, if they can you will require a lock that can be locked on both sides of the gate either by a key or digital lock.
If you are using an electric strike on the gate post, this will also be a factor with which lock is chosen as the latch must be self latching and able to lock into the mouth of the electric strike, usually the lock is chosen first then a suitable electric strike is selected for the lock, many of our gate locks have in accessories on the locks webpage the suitable electric strike for that gate lock.
The gate lock will be exposed to some harsh weather so it is important to get the correct lock that is weather resistant or marine grade if you are near the coast.
The lock is fitted to the gate frame not the external cladding so once you have measured the size of your gate frame some choices below.

If your gate frame is 10mm flat bar to 30mm square metal box tube and you would like double keypad with codes on both sides of the gate, a popular choice is the Gatemaster Superlock Digital Dual Keypad for 10-30mm Gate Frames:

https://www.locksgalore.com.au/security-products/product/superlock-digital-dual-keypad-for-10-30mm-gate-frames

If your gate frame is 40mm to 60mm square metal box tube and you would like double keypad with codes on both sides of the gate, a popular choice is the Gatemaster Superlock Digital Dual Keypad for 40-60mm Gate Frames:

https://www.locksgalore.com.au/security-products/product/superlock-digital-dual-keypad-for-40-60mm-gate-frames

If your gate frame is 50mm square metal box tube and you would like single keypad with code only on the outside side of the gate, and on the inside just a lever handle free to exit without needing a code, a popular choice is the Lockey 2985MG Narrow Stile Digital Deadlatch with Lever Handles:

https://www.locksgalore.com.au/security-products/product/lockey-2985mg-narrow-stile-digital-deadlatch-with-lever-handles

If you are not sure about which lock to choose for your gate you can email us pictures of your gate frame where the lock is to be fitted, along with the measurements of the box tube size of the gate frame and let us know if you would prefer key lock or digital lock, email our office at sales@locksgalore.com.au and we will reply with possible choices.

Electronic Cabinet Locks

Digital electronic cabinet locks are compact digital locks, that are ideal for replacing keyed cam locks.

Digital electronic cabinet locks can have multiple codes and are keyless and wireless giving you secure access for cabinets, lockers and drawers.

When choosing a combination cabinet lock, you first need to decide if you require a mechanical combination cabinet lock or an elecftronic cabinet lock.

A standard mechanical combination cam lock allows the user to set a code and that code is then used each time to open the locker, the code can be changed but will only ever allow one code to open the lock as it is mechanical.

Example of a mechanical combination lock Atlas 7440:

Atlas Lock 7440 Combination Cam Lock - Locks Galore

Electronic digital cabinet locks are compact and wireless, they can be fitted in place of a standard keyed cam lock, and will usually have an opening code and a master code.

Better quality electronic cabinet locks like the Atlas EL603, EL701 and EL703 Digital cabinet locks also have a gymnasium mode function which is ideal for gyms and short term locker usage, where a code can be set and used only once more upon your return to clear the locker out of your belongings, and leave it for the next locker user to set their own one time usage code.

Electronic Cabinet Locks - Locks Galore

The Atlas EL603, EL701 and EL703 Electronic Digital locks also have anti theft fake pin code function, in this mode you can input any code numbers before or after the real password to prevent the real password being seen by someone else that could be watching over your shoulder, maximum 16 digits long.

What is a deadlock?

What's a deadlock, and why would you want one?

My insurer says I need a deadlock, what is that?

A deadlock requires either a digital codepad (mechanical or electronic) or key locking mechanism on both sides of the door. Deadlocks come in two types, Deadbolts & Deadlatches, in both cases when the door is closed the bolt/latch cannot be thrown without operating the locking mechanism.

Why does my insurer want me to have one?

If a burglar has successfully entered your home, perhaps through a window or skylight, being unable to open any of the external access doors prevents them from easily making off with your TV or other bulky valuables.

To satisfy insurance stipulations, all doors with external access must be fitted with a deadlock.

Common examples of a deadlock include this Carbine Double Cylinder, the very tough Lockwood 355, or this Austral SD7 for sliding doors. Other examples include mortice deadlocks, and combination deadlocks such as the Lockey 3210DCMG.

Restricted Key Systems

A short introduction to Restricted Key Systems - What are they and who needs one?!

Restricted key systems

You’ve probably seen a key before with the unambiguous words “DO NOT COPY” stamped on the key head – this is not your key telling you to be more original, but rather an indicator that the key is restricted.

What is a restricted key?

A restricted key is a key with uncommon broaching (a non standard profile) which will only be replicated by the original locksmith, with the expressed consent of the client. This is to ensure unwanted duplicates can’t be made by disgruntled employees, axe-grinding former partners, or the dreaded jilted ex! Each key is individually stamped with an identifying digit and the unique system number, allowing for greater control and accountability.

Who can get extra restricted keys cut?

When the restricted key lock system is set up, the owner of the locks fills out a restricted key signature form nominating who has the right to get extra keys cut, only these nominated signatories can request extra keys to be cut. This system provides great peace of mind that none of your staff can duck out at lunchtime and get more keys cut at a local key cutting business.

Having a different broaching offers additional security, as bump keys will not fit the barrel. Locks Galore restricted systems are available in a wide variety of formats, from padlocks to leversets and knobs. Locks Galore will have records for your restricted system and can provide additional locks or keys to suit your needs as your business grows, provided you are a registered signatory.

Who needs one?

You! While putting your home on a restricted key might seem a little extreme, it is becoming more common, with entire developments being fitted with restricted key systems for optimum key control. Restricted systems are also commonly used by industry, retail, offices & schools.

Where access is necessarily tight, if there is danger with liability or confidentiality at stake maintaining tight access controls is a must, and restricted key systems, while not a complete solution, are an absolutely integral part. Knowing there is a finite number of keys, knowing who has which key, and which keys open which locks is more than good security protocol, it’s good peace of mind.

Benefits:

Access control

No unauthorised duplication

Higher security locks

Deposit Safes

Take a quick look into deposit safes with Locks Galore.

Deposit Safes

Function of a deposit safe:

Every retail manager knows the drill, cash goes into the safe via the deposit chute during trading hours, keeping the cash level in the register at a minimum. When trading for the day is over, the safe is opened and the takings can be processed. It’s a time tested formula for risk management and mitigation, and is standard operating procedure across the country.

If you run a retail business and accept cash as payment, you will need a deposit safe.

Which Deposit Safe do I need?

Many options are available and choosing can be difficult. Cheaper safes often suffer from low build quality, poor design, and substandard materials. High security safes can extend well into premium territory and can be excessive for small businesses, and also incur large installation costs from safe installers.

Insurance stipulations may restrict the range of safes that are available for your application, and depending on your daily takings a safe with a higher cash rating may be required.

Atlas SG11K Deposit Safes

Are an ideal undercounter safe solution, and have security features typically associated with a much higher price tag, including:

Internal hinges - cannot be attacked from outside the safe

Sawtooth Anti-fishing baffle - hinders attempts to retrieve valuables through the deposit chute

Double Bitted Security Key - 2 security keys provided

18mm Chrome plated steel boltwork - heavy gauge compared to similar products

Atlas SG11K safes have been designed to cater to the needs of small and medium retail businesses, such as café, restaurants, & sports clubs.

Atlas safes have a proven record of sturdiness & reliability, and can be shipped nationwide.

Combination Cabinet Locks

Combination cam locks, Locks Galore has a large range to choose from that are electronic or mechanical combination cam locks that require no batteries.

Our range of combination cam locks will retrofit standard key operated cam locks used on Australian office furniture and lockers, providing you with the perfect keyless solution to locking up your cabinets and lockers.

We can supply bulk quantities to cabinet makers at special discounted prices, and we are able to advise on best choice of lock type and features for your next combination cabinet lock fitout.

Mechanical combination cam locks:

https://www.locksgalore.com.au/security-products/category/combination-and-digital-cabinet-locks

Mechanical combination cam locks as the name suggests require no batteries or wiring and are very reliable
One user code which can be changed easily to a new code
Atlas 7440 Combination cam lock and LG904 Combination Cam locks can be supplied for bulk orders with an override key that will not only open the lock but also if a code is forgotten you can simply turn the key and roll the code dials and the number that they stop on is the last code used, this allows you to use the lock on the same code or rest to a new code.

Electronic combination cam locks:

https://www.locksgalore.com.au/security-products/category/electronic-cabinet-locks

Electronic combination cam locks are powered by batteries usually mounted in the back of the lock, so they are standalone locks that require no electric wiring to the cabinet.
Electronic combination cam locks can have multiple user codes.
Some electronic locks can have the feature of one time user code mode: In this mode the lock can be locked and opened once before the code is erased for the next user to enter a new code. This is typically used in lockers that will have multiple short term occupancy, such a gym lockers.

Combination cam locks are a modern, stylish and convenient keyless option for your cabinets and lockers.
